ANCIENT LANDSCAPES IN A WHOLE NEW LIGHT

On 22 July 2028, the iconic Kimberley landscape in far north Western Australia will play host to one of nature’s most mesmerising spectacles — a total solar eclipse. The Moon will glide directly between the Earth and the Sun, turning day into an eerie twilight, revealing the Sun’s ghostly corona, and prompting a hush of wonder across the land.

July offers ideal viewing conditions in the Kimberley with mild dry-season weather, sunny days, and clear skies. Come for the eclipse and stay for the Kimberley experience, marvel at the majestic forms of Country, rejuvenate in the region’s many pristine inland waterways, immerse yourself in ancient stories and experiences with Traditional Owners.

The Longest Totality Visible In Australia

The East Kimberley will experience the longest duration of totality anywhere on the Australian continent – up to five minutes and ten seconds, one of the longest to be experienced on a global scale this century. Clear skies and dramatic backdrops steeped in cultural significance make the region the best place to view the event, which is already attracting astronomers from all over the world.

Preparation for this experience is led by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, in partnership with the Kimberley Development Commission. More details to assist visitors attending the event will be available here soon.
